The right presentation makes all the difference. This project was for a client who just celebrated their birthday & had received a small gold plated Saint Patrick medallion from a family member. The medallion had come un-mounted, and initially wanted just a chain to attach the piece to. There was also a desire to get something custom made with their birthstone (peridot) - at this point, I proposed we accomplish both requests at once.

Design: From the start, the client knew they wanted mixed metals in the piece, to match some other jewelry they had. After reviewing chain designs, the client picked a rounded “box” (or “venetian”) chain style to complement the pendant’s design. The bail is a minimal design - a formed strip of silver that would be cold-fastened over the pendant loop, and with a simple bezel setting for a round cut peridot.

Execution: The chain was sourced locally. I picked out a chain that was a standard length (24”), but then re-sized it at the client’s request. They already had a chain they wore regularly at 24” in length, so this new chain needed to be sized down for them to stack their jewelry- they wanted to wear both at the same time. We determined a final length around 23 ½” for this new chain.
